Job Description

Sheffield United Football Club have an exciting opportunity for a chef who is passionate about nutrition and healthy food to join our team. The First Team Sous Chef will be part of the Sheffield United FC first team inter-disciplinary sport science team and the kitchen department. The position will involve supporting and assisting the First Team Head Chef.

 

Role Responsibilities:

 

Assist the First Team Head Chef with the preparation and cooking of nutritious meals for the first team players and members of staff.

Be responsible for ordering produce alongside the Head Chef, including sourcing the best local ingredients to improve the nutrient density of the food cooked for the first team.

Reduce food waste by ensuring correct food availability.

Regularly run food hygiene and health and safety audits in the kitchen to ensure that a 5-star hygiene rating is met.

Where possible do live cooking to first team players requirements and lead demonstrations and workshops with the first team players helping improve their cooking skills and abilities.

Be able to travel with the first team to ensure their dietary requirements are met in the hotel as well as on the bus when travelling from games so recovery is optimised.

Advise adequate portion control at mealtimes.

Ensure excellent presentation of food at mealtimes with fresh local ingredients.

Be creative with menus and to be able to understand the benefits of nutritious food to aid performance and recovery.

Be versatile with budgets and be able to create menus within a specific budget.

 

Essential Criteria for the role:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Experience working full time in a 4-star restaurant.

 

Level 3 food hygiene certificate.

 

Minimum of Level 3 City and Guilds in catering or equivalent.

 

Passionate about healthy food.

 

High standard of food presentation skills.

 

Hard working and well organised with well-established time management skills.

 

Flexible with working hours to include weekends and bank holidays, as well as working away where required.

 

Desirable Criteria for the role:

 

Experience of working in a professional sport environment.
