Nature and Scope:
The RFU has recently undergone a period of significant transformation, responding to changes in the external environment whilst adjusting to the demands of a modern commercial governing body. The organisation is now delivering a new strategic plan, which hopes to have a transformational impact on Rugby Union in England.

Player welfare has always been an integral part of the RFU’s strategy and in order to protect and support the wellbeing of players, the RFU is initiating and delivering a number of key initiatives designed to enhance player welfare and reduce the risk of head impacts and concussion in rugby across England through its Head Impact Prevention and Management project.

These initiatives include; the scoping and rollout of instrumented mouthguards in the professional game, implementation of a tackle height evaluation trial in the age-grade game, monitoring of the Advanced BRAIN Health Clinic and the coordination of a multi-stakeholder review of the graduated return to play protocols. These initiatives are not exhaustive, and the project is expected to evolve over the next two years.

As such, the RFU are recruiting a talented individual with strong project management and excellent stakeholder management skills who will be responsible for managing and delivering these key initiatives with best practice project management, precision analysis and objectivity at all times. The role holder will be required to work across the professional and community game and throughout the organisation at all levels of the business.

The role will sit within the Strategy and Insights team, with a group of project managers, however the role will also be accountable to the Medical Services Director as well as the Head of Game Development.

Accountabilities:
- Manage key initiatives ensuring on time and budget delivery of all project related activity throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage and develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress
- Manage reporting mechanisms, risk tracking and mitigation and schedule and facilitate project meetings to deliver successful outcomes.
- Support, manage and communicate with key members of the project team and senior internal and external stakeholders in order to develop and deliver project objectives.
- Build relationships and work collaboratively with World Rugby, Premiership Rugby, the Rugby Players Association, universities and CBs to deliver relevant initiatives as required.
- Manage and analyse information, drawing conclusions and presenting it in an easily understood manner.
- Problem solving, evaluating and decision-making for ad-hoc project related tasks.
- Financial management and accountability for project deliverables.
- Act as an ambassador for, and promote the best interests of the RFU at all times, including the promotion of the RFU Core Values
- Undertake such other duties as maybe required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post and the needs of the RFU

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience:
- Must demonstrate competence through previous relevant experience initiating and managing large transformational projects
- Strong project planning experience and ability to manage effectively within scope, timelines, budget and quality
- Experience of working collaboratively with senior members of staff.
- Competence in people management and ability to lead or support in-house and third-party teams, communicate effectively with and influence business stakeholders
- Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and proficiency with Smartsheet.
- Degree level education is essential
- Experience working on sport science or medical projects is desirable.
- Knowledge of the professional and/or community rugby landscape would be helpful.
- Experience working with or within National Governing Bodies would be helpful.
