In House Legal Counsel - BRITISH ATHLETES COMMISSION - Salary £35,000 - £40,000 - Closing date 15 October 2021
The British Athletes Commission exists to support, advise and represent the interests of Britain’s elite athletes by providing them with independent, confidential support and expert advice in a range of areas. This support covers issues ranging from selection and appeals to grievances within their team to disciplinary support, and welfare and safeguarding concerns.
The role of In House Legal Counsel for the BAC is to be part of a team responsible for delivering high class support to World Class Programme athletes.
• Being the BAC Athlete Support In-House Legal Counsel. • Providing confidential and independent world class support and advice to the BAC membership on a range of issues. • Ensuring NGB policy and processes relating to the selection for major events, are fair and reasonable from an athletes’ perspective. • Commercial matters (sponsorship, GDPR and brand protection/IPR)
The post holder will report to the Head of Athlete Support and will be expected to work collaboratively with BAC colleagues working in other teams. The role will have significant relationships with BAC members which will be treated with the utmost integrity.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Advise on and amend selection agreements from all NGBs with Athletes on the World Class Programme. • Advise on the legal effect of policy amendments and proposals (internal and external). • Advise on a wide variety of areas of law; contract, procurement, intellectual property, employment, sports (including anti-doping, anti-corruption) public, human rights, equality, data protection freedom of information and other regulatory matters. • Advise on and draft and amend contracts as necessary.
