Hockey Australia is the governing body responsible for providing Australians with the opportunity to play hockey from junior levels through to elite competition, including the Olympic Games.

Hockey is one of Australia’s most successful team sports, boasting 12 Olympic medals between the men’s and women’s team programs as well as 15 World Cup medals, ten Commonwealth Games medals and podium finishes at 39 Champions Trophy tournaments.  A major strength of the sport is its overarching high performance structure which consists of the national teams program in Perth, underpinned by eight National Training Centres hosted by the State Institutes and Academies of Sport in every state and territory of Australia.

Reporting to the CEO, the High Performance Director will lead all aspects of the hockey High Performance Program including the development and implementation of the agreed national high performance strategic framework to achieve sustained success at the elite level. The HP Director will communicate and drive a vision that inspires the High Performance unit to envision future success and move towards higher levels of performance through a ‘World Best’ daily training environment.

To be successful in this role you will need to be an empathetic and engaging leader with an ability to swiftly build relationships and credibility with international level athletes, coaches, staff and a variety of other stakeholders. A proven business acumen including budgeting, strategic and operational planning is required.

The ideal candidate is tertiary qualified with significant senior management or leadership experience in high performance, elite or professional sport. Knowledge of both international and Australian sport structures and dynamics is required, as is an understanding of athlete development and performance pathways and the drivers to succeed in an elite team sport.

A strong technical understanding of hockey at the elite level is preferable, but not mandatory. What is essential is the ability to build a high-performance culture that actively embraces wellbeing as a key plank of an environment for sustained high performance success.

This role presents a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on an Australian Olympic high performance program both strategically and operationally.

Hockey Australia will consider international candidates based on merit and are open to sponsoring a working VISA if required. A relocation package may be available to assist with the costs of moving to Perth.
