Job Description

Between 29 October - 06 November 2022, the city of Liverpool is to host the World Gymnastics Championships.

Delivered by Liverpool City Council in partnership UK Sport and British Gymnastics, over 550 gymnasts from 75 countries are expected to compete at the M&S Bank Arena, making it one of the largest international sporting events ever to be held in the city.

Employed by Liverpool City Council, the Local Organising Committee wishes to recruit a fixed term Marketing and Communications Manager who will lead on the strategic and operational marketing and communications plan and delivery for the Championships.

In this multi-discipline and fast paced role, the successful candidate will lead all aspects of the event brand and content production in support of event objectives, and collaborate with key partners and external agencies to deliver marketing and PR campaigns to a worldwide audience.

We are looking for a highly-motivated, hardworking, self-starter, who has extensive experience of working in a marketing and communications environment within a major sport events, sports marketing agency, national governing body or rights holder.

They will have experience of leading on comparable activity and campaigns from conceptualisation through to implementation, activating across channels including websites, social media and email marketing, and ticketing initiatives.
The manager will also take the lead on developing a corporate communications plan and the drafting and production of all press briefing materials and official responses to sport- and event-related issues.
This is a phenomenal chance to lead a small team of internal and external creative agencies at this Olympic qualifying event, leading on mar-comms plans that showcase the world’s greatest gymnasts over nine exciting days. We want a candidate who can showcase a sport where power meets poise, expression meets precision, and artistry meets ambition and deliver a plan that highlights the global event city of Liverpool.
This pivotal role will also lead on Spectator Experience and work closely with functional area leads in ticketing, hospitality, operations, sport, sports presentation and ceremonies. They will be responsible for forming a team to deliver all marketing and communications aspects of Championships delivery.
MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
• Further develop the strategic and operational marketing and communications plan for
World Gymnastics Championships 2022.
• Ensure that the marketing and communications function fully supports delivery against all
of the World Gymnastics Championships objectives through effective planning and
communication with the Project Director and Functional Area Leads.
• Manage brand development, oversee the delivery of the event brand ensuring that usage is
compliant against guidelines and delivery is consistent.
• Design, create and manage Marketing and PR campaigns designed to engage target
audiences and increase ticket sales, sponsorship engagement, event awareness and
stakeholder engagement.
• Oversee all aspects of design and production including but not limited to websites, social
media, email marketing, branding and dressing, Field of Play Overlay, Uniform, Tickets,
Sponsor Collateral, Merchandise and Delegation Communications.
• Work with the Commercial Agency to ensure that sponsor and partner requirements are
delivered in accordance with commercial agreements.
• Work with the Communications and PR agency to develop creative and innovative
opportunities to boost the event‘s profile, particularly around traditional milestones and with
sports and sports business media, taking the lead on drafting, copywriting and production
of press releases where required. • Work with the Communications and PR agency to develop a corporate communications
plan, including all press briefing materials and official responses to sport- and event-related
news or issues.
• Manage all photography and filming requirements pre- and during the event, working with
the media operations manager where required.
• Manage delivery of marketing and communications resources both through internal
Liverpool City Council’s Marketing and Communications Teams and Marketing Liverpool
and external suppliers to ensure the most effective delivery model.
• Be responsible for working with existing suppliers and procuring additional external
marketing and communications suppliers as part of the wider campaign ideation and
delivery requirements; agreeing workplans and delivery
• Commission, where appropriate, relevant market research in order to identify market
requirements
• Oversee the content production for and management of the World Gymnastics
Championships 2022 website and social media channels associated with the event.
• Work across all Functional Areas to ensure that all marketing and communications
requirements and opportunities are fulfilled.
• Provide timely updates and reports on all marketing and communications activities as
required including management of the Front of House Group of the Local Organising
Committee.
• Build relationships with UK Sport, British Gymnastics the International Gymnastics
Federation and city stakeholders to ensure wider promotion of the event across their
channels and opportunities.
• Understand and deliver all materials for events in line with brand guidelines set out by the
events rights holders.
• Oversee the recruitment of event delivery teams in relation to marketing and
communications.
• Manage the delivery of event time coverage and news service through a co-ordination of in
house, partner and external delivery partners.
• Management of marketing and communication budgets.
• To work within Liverpool City Council guidelines to ensure equality of opportunity.
