In 1962, the ParaVics Sports Club was formed to help a group of eight athletes with disability compete in national and international sporting competitions. We are proud to be the birthplace of the Victorian Paralympic movement.

Today, our vision is to create Victoria where all people with disability can choose and access any sport or active recreation activity they want to engage with.

Our Mission is to provide and promote positive outcomes for people with a disability

We work directly with many stakeholders including community organisations, state sporting associations, local government, state government and partners to achieve our mission.

Purpose of the position:

To identify best practice and liaise with the disability sport and recreation sector to develop a clear and concise pathway to participation in sport and recreation for people with a disability

To increase physical activity levels of people with a disability in sport and recreation in partnership with other sport and recreation providers across Victoria through supporting delivery of events and other activities.

What you will do

  • Document a clear pathway of participation for people with a disability to be active in sport and recreation, based on best practice models and behaviour change principles
  • Support DSR’s Programs department to build the capacity of sport and recreation organisations to support more people with a disability to be active.
  • Support DSR’s Programs department to deliver participation activities through relationships with existing and new partners
  • Deliver DSR’s Online Active programs supporting people with a disability to engage in sport and recreation in an online delivery format
  • Actively promote and recruit new members for DSR 
  • Support the delivery of Activate Inclusion Days in conjunction with key organisation partners
  • Work closely with the other members of DSR’s upcoming project to enhance overall project outcomes 
  • Work closely with the Communications Officer to ensure that the DSR website and other communication channels are current and up to date related to participation opportunities
  • Support regional participation opportunities in partnership with regional sports assemblies 
  • Connect with local health organisations, local government authorities and other sporting and community organisations to promote positive opportunities for people with a disability to be active.
  • Establish effective, ongoing communication and collaboration with disability organisations, health providers and state sporting associations.
  • Support the exposure and involvement of people with disability in other Victorian government programs that support them to be active including Together More Active, AAA Play and the participation voucher scheme

Where will you work?

This position will work flexibly from both the Disability Sport & Recreation (DSR) Collingwood office and from a home office (if applicable).

Employment length

This role is expected to be a full time limited tenure position for six months as part of an upcoming project

Essential Requirements

  • Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • Strong relationship building skills and the ability to work autonomously
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, with strong interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with stakeholders
  • A strong understanding of the barriers to physical activity, principles of behaviour change and a person-centred approach to service delivery

Desirable Criteria

  • Sports Management / Business Degree
  • Drivers Licence
  • Experience working with people with disability
  • Experience in the not for profit sector
  • Experience in working within the Sport and Recreation sector
  • Ability to identify and translate best practice models into practice
  • Experience in identifying and translating best practice models into local contexts
  • Experience in the role of the NDIS in supporting people with disability to engage in sport and recreation
