Become a Swim Teacher - YMCA Victoria - Closing 14 Aug 2021
Leongatha Victoria, Australia
About the Opportunity
Based in Leongatha, South Gippsland SPLASH has a wide range of facilities to suit swimmers of all ages and abilities.
As we ramp up our program of lessons for term 4 and summer, we're seeking to attract new entrants to the industry who share our passion for educating children in this essential skill that will set them up for life.
How will it work?
After completing a selection process, you'll be enrolled to undertake the Swim Teacher accreditation which involves online and in pool learning. The course will take place on Sunday 8 August 2021.
Once your training is complete we'll supervise as you complete shadow hours in the pool under the supervision of our experienced Teachers. When you've reached the required level of proficiency you'll be formally accredited and ready to take up your new role as a Swim Teacher.
The cost of the course will be fully funded by YMCA Victoria and we will also assist you with organising your shadow hours at our facility in Leongatha.
Why become a Swim Teacher?
As a Swimming Teacher at YMCA Victoria, you will be teaching children and young people a lifesaving skill that lasts a lifetime. You will work in a positive environment where the focus is on health and water safety and having fun!
Swim Teaching can offer you an exciting career path whether you are looking to begin your career in Recreation and Aquatics or have a preference for flexible working arrangements to compliment your study or family commitments.
YMCA Swimming Teachers are the most important component in the delivery of the YMCA Swimming Lessons program. You will deliver safe, effective and professional lessons for children to learn in the pool and swim in the world.
You will unlock the power of all children to be inspired by swimming, creating lifelong opportunities. Our mission, vision and values are to inspire swimmers to reach their potential through lifelong participation in the water.
Who should apply?
We're looking for people who have a passion for working with and developing children. It's great if you're a strong swimmer but not essential. Most important is the ability to coordinate and communicate with small groups of children. Of course, providing feedback and customer service is a big part of the role too.
At YMCA Victoria we've had great success developing Swim Teachers from a variety of backgrounds. In particular, we've found that people with the following backgrounds often make the transition comfortably:
People currently working in education or studying to become a teacher
Medical, nursing and physiotherapy students
People actively involved in swimming clubs
Stay at home parents seeking to return to the workforce
Retirees or people transitioning to retirement with backgrounds in a teaching or childcare related field
What you need to do:
Be available on Sunday 8 August 2021 for a day of learning in the water at South Gippsland SPLASH in Leongatha
Commit to completing a minimum of 20 shadow hours with a qualified Swim Teacher (we will help you to organise this)
