Company Background Hartlepool United Football Club was founded in 1908 and is a professional football club operating in the EFL.
Following the Chairman takeover of the club 3 years ago, the club has been put back on a solid financial footing with on-field success also following in the form of our promotion back to the EFL.

The Role The role is based at Victoria Park stadium. The Financial Accountant will be working autonomously to ensure the smooth day to day running of the Finance Department. The role holds responsibility for ensuring that day to day processing is routinely completed and monthly accounts are prepared in a timely manner for the review by the Group General Manager (FCA qualified). The role is full time and has an element of flexible working. The Financial Accountant may also be required to attend matchdays, including weekend and mid-week fixtures.
More specifically, the role will include; • Purchases; o Matching purchase invoices against requisitions o Ensuring invoices properly signed off o Posting invoices to Sage 50 o Reconciling supplier statements o Proactively resolving disputes and queries to ensure continuity of credit and supply o Responsibility for ensuring correct VAT codes applied to invoice processing o Preparing BACS schedules and ensuring timely payment of suppliers
• Sales; o Raising sales invoices in Sage 50 from commercial orders o Reconciling ticket sales o Reconciling bar and catering income o Reconciling other matchday income (car park, lottery, programmes, etc.) o Responsibility for credit control and providing monthly debtors report to the Group General Manager • Banking and cash; o Responsibility for post-matchday banking of various income streams and ensuring floats are correct ready for the next match o Reconciling all petty cash and bank accounts o Reconciling credit card / Paypal takings
• Payroll; o Responsibility for collating match day timesheets, reviewing and inputting onto control sheet prior to submission to payroll provider and final review by Group General Manager o Ensuring AOE and expenses are correctly processed o Reconciling payroll control accounts in Sage 50 o Submitting pension reports online and paying pension in a timely manner
• Responsibility for preparing monthly management accounts for review by the Financial Controller prior to monthly Board Meetings. • Preparing matchday financial report • Preparing ad hoc financial management information for the Senior Management Team. • Preparing quarterly VAT return • Assist Senior Management Team with other duties as reasonably required.

The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes; • Ambitious and self-motivated to make a difference in the business • Experience of Sage 50 • Capable of autonomous operation • Understanding of VAT and PAYE • Eager to learn • Attention to detail • Strong IT skills, in particular Excel and confidence in working with systems • Organised
It would be preferable that the candidate is at a minimum AAT qualified.
Previous football / professional sports background would be an advantage, but not essential.
What is essential is that the candidate possesses the correct general skills set and can demonstrate the right attitude to fit within the organisation and willingness to learn.
A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a similar role is essential.
Basic Salary £25,000 - £28,000 dependent upon experience + potential for study support
