$77,739 plus 9.5% Superannuation

 

Maximum Term Contract up until 30 June 2022

*The rate includes a 20% loading for working unusual hours including outside normal business hours. Involves early morning, evening and weekend work.

As the Operations Coordinator you will be responsible for supporting a number of key service areas within the North Melbourne Recreation Centre (NMRC) to ensure delivery of a high quality, safe, professional and responsive health, wellbeing and fitness service. The primary objective of the position is to maintain a high quality seasonal aquatic environment by ensuring all aquatic plant services as well as broader contracted facility cleaning and maintenance are delivered to a high standard so as to meet the expectations of members and guests.

A key challenge of the role is to support operations in a highly competitive commercial service sector, operating within a shared facility comprising elite sporting bodies, state sporting organisations and community groups whilst maintaining excellent customer service within a local government context.

The Operations Coordinator is responsible for: 

  • Coordinating the operations of NMRC’s Aquatic Facility including recruitment, induction, rostering and ongoing management of seasonal LSO’s.
  • Coordinating pool plant operations as required and escalating more complex pool plant operations to the manager.
  • Coordinating GJK & Brookfield contractors for daily cleaning and routine maintenance items across NMRC’s gym and aquatic facilities.
  • Facilitating in-house training with external contractors relating to aquatic risks and the Building Emergency Control Organisation (BECO).
  • Developing service policies and procedures for aquatic facilities.
  • Ordering appropriate pool chemicals so as to ensure continuity of service.
  • Maintain staff qualifications register ensuring currency of all staff qualifications.
  • Effectively responding to customer feedback with appropriate escalation where applicable.
  • Demonstrating actions and behaviours conducive to a service driven, team orientated culture where by performance outcomes are clearly communicated, measured and rewarded.

Your aim will be to inform and create an awareness of the benefits of a healthier and more balanced lifestyle, providing high quality and safe health, fitness and well-being services and programs, whilst maintaining the cost effectiveness of operations.

The successful incumbent will be required to have qualifications in Pool Lifeguard, First Aid and a Working with Children Check. Aquatic Technical Operators Certificate or equivalent is also essential. 

Units of competency

  • HLTAID001: Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTAID002: Provide basic emergency life support
  • HLTAID003: Provide First Aid
  • A current Pool Lifeguard certificate and experience supervising patrons at an aquatic facility, or willingness to obtain certificate within four weeks of appointment.

Units of competency

  • PUAEME001B: Provide emergency care
  • PUAEME003C: Administer oxygen in an emergency situation
  • PUAOPE010C: Operate and automated external defibrillator in an emergency
  • SISCAQU002: Perform basic water rescues
  • SISCAQU006: Supervise clients in aquatic locations
  • SISCAQU007: Perform water rescue

Additional desirable skills and qualifications:

  • OH&S Certificate
  • Certificate IV in Work Place Training & Assessment
  • Ability to substitute in the areas of memberships, business development or health and fitness 
  • Understanding of LINKS point of sale or similar member data software
  • Food handling certificate or hospitality experience so as to manage a seasonal pool cafe

  • Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
  • Understanding of and experience working in pool plant operations and coordinating the maintenance provider.
  • Experience managing external contracts for cleaning and maintenance.  
  • Demonstrated evidence of working within, and developing service driven operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate the Annual Life Saving Victoria Aquatic Facility Safety Assessment and WAW (Watch Around Water) to achieve Platinum Pool accreditation.
  • Ability to coordinate in-house training related to customer service, aquatic risks and emergency response.
  • Plant Operators Certificate (Aquatic Technical Operators Certificate or equivalent).
  • The role requires lifeguards to be able to undertake the requirements in the pool lifeguard qualification and the Royal Life Saving Society lifeguarding manual.  
  • A current level two First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain certificate within four weeks of appointment.
