An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced, professional, and enthusiastic Lead Strength and Rehabilitation Coach to join our Sports Science department. This role supports the daily activities of the Sports Science department with specific reference to strength and conditioning and player rehabilitation from injury. The successful candidate will act as a strategic leader within the Sports Science department helping to create and maintain a positive high performance working environment with players and staff. Reporting to the Head of Sports Science, the Lead Strength and Rehabilitation Coach will be expected to: • Proactively contribute to the continuation of the BFC strength and conditioning philosophy that defines WHAT, WHY, WHO, WHEN and HOW we do what we do. • Lead the strength and conditioning coaching team to plan and deliver effective gym-based strength and conditioning sessions that influence injury prevention and performance enhancement. • Collect, interpret, and use strength assessment data to inform specific individual injury prevention programmes. • Plan and deliver effective and individualised player prehab in collaboration with the sports science and medical team. • Using strength and conditioning assessment data develop individual player and team physical profiles in the BFC athlete performance management system. • Deliver match day strength and conditioning support at all first team games including travelling with the team when required (subject to COVID19 restrictions). • Develop and deliver an educational support programme that positively influences player self-determination specifically in terms of strength, conditioning, and rehabilitation. • Lead the planning of player rehabilitation in collaboration with other key medical and sports science staff. • Work with medical staff to deliver appropriate strength and conditioning requirements during player rehabilitation from injury. • Deliver structured pitch-based player rehabilitation managing the transition from the medical team to return to training and competition. • Work with medical staff to monitor strength levels throughout the rehabilitation period as players progress back to previous norms. • Remain up to date on potential new technologies and innovation that can improve injury prevention capability. • Work closely with BFC performance nutritionist to maximise effective rehab. • To understand and implement the Club’s Safeguarding policy, procedures, and best practice guidelines in your role. To use this understanding to ensure safe working practices, appropriate reporting of concerns and contribute positively to a safe environment. • Hold a commitment to equality and diversity in the workplace. • Promote the Burnley FC brand and ethos in a professional, strong, and positive manner.
An ideal candidate will have:
Essential: • Level 7 qualification in a sports science or medical related subject. • Level 6 qualification in a Strength and Conditioning or Sports science related degree. • Appropriate recognised Strength and Conditioning qualification. • A minimum of 6 years’ experience of working in a professional team environment with both first team and development team elite football players. • Ability to plan and deliver individual and team strength and conditioning programming and show evidence of previous effective work. • Competent in using a range of strength and conditioning assessment technologies. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to quickly build trust and relationships. • Team player who will put team and player success over individual success. • The ability to create highly professional relationships with players and staff to motivate and drive self-determination. • Ability to inspire others. • Displays no prejudice when working with others. • Self-motivated, with expectation of self and others. • A friendly, positive ‘can do’ and courteous attitude.
Desirable: • Physiotherapy degree completed to a minimum of level 6. • Experience of leading and managing a team.
