About the role
Reporting to the Executive Leader Business Delivery and Support, and managing three Area Managers, the General Manager - Recreation will oversee all planning, budgeting, financial accounting and reporting of the Y NSW’s recreation and camping functions.
You will provide relevant financial information to the Board, Leadership Team and operational business units to allow them to make informed decisions. You will also oversee property, procurement and asset management for the portfolio. You will use your extensive industry experience in all facets of staff and financial management, reporting, marketing, risk management, as well as program and service development including strong evaluation techniques and strategies. You will develop centres with a diversified range of programs, community-building activities and services.
The General Manager - Recreation will be an efficient, innovative, self-driven leader, showing strong commitment to staff development and best practice. Adaptable, high-energy and positive, you will demonstrate a “can do” attitude, good communication skills and a keen eye for detail.
A strong team manager with excellent coaching skills you take initiative, adhere to deadlines and thrive in fast paced operational environments.
Key Selection Criteria:
10 years’ experience in a similar role
Willingness and ability to travel across sites within NSW & ACT
Experience delivering high-quality, engaging support and leadership at a senior level to a large and diverse workforce
A demonstrated commitment to assisting direct reports in meeting budgets, adhering to business plans and other agreed objectives and facilitating continuous improvement
Experience in contract management and negotiation, tendering processes and program and service development
A proven ability to set and deliver on a strategy in a complex fast-paced business
Experience building successful relationships with stakeholders including government representatives, Board committees and other partners
Experience managing and reporting on auditing processes
Experience monitoring and reporting on financial performance
Ability to work with marketing teams to promote programs and develop community partnerships
A demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to compliance and risk management
A sincere commitment to the Y NSW mission and values

Leadership skills in strategy, relationship development, communication, finance, human resource development and customer service
Significant industry experience (10+ years)
Relevant tertiary qualifications - Degree in Recreation Management or similar
Previous experience in a similar role
