Job Description

Artistic Swimming Australia is looking for a High Performance Pathways director. Artistic Swimming Australia is open to be flexible for the right candidate.

Role Purpose: To support and develop the Artistic Swimming Australia High Performance pathways

Responsible To:Artistic Swimming Australia Inc (ASAI) Board

Principle Relationships: Works collaboratively with the:

  • ASAI High Performance Committee (HPC);
  • Artistic Swimming Australia Inc (ASAI) Board;
  • State boards – WA, VIC, NSW/ACT, QLD;
  • National Coaching Director (NCD);
  • State Coaching Directors;
  • State High Performance (HP) coaches;
  • National Team/Squad coaches.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Developing and maintaining a valid and reliable talent identification and confirmation method, that is aligned to the ‘What It Takes To Win’ (WITTW) model, that can be used to selected Emerging athletes within the Sports Athlete Categorisation Framework
  • Cultivate positive relationships with key stakeholders, including by not limited to, National Institute Network, International Federation, Australian Olympic Committee, Commonwealth Games Australia, State and Territory Sporting Organisation
  • Work closely with the Australian Institute of Sport and other sports to capture and utilise best and/or next practice
  • Develop Performance Pathway operational plans that prioritises the yearly objectives and align to the strategy and WITTW mode
  • Develop detailed budgets (including line items & calculations) that are aligned to the Performance Pathway strategy and WITTW mode
  • Develop and implement Key Performance Indicators that effectively and accurately measures the impact of the performance pathway strategy from underpinning programs through to the Podium
  • Provide operational support to Under-Age National Teams that have Emerging, Developing and Podium Potential athletes and coaches participating
  • Work with the Performance Director (or equivalent), to develop all selection policies relating to the Emerging, Developing and Podium Potential areas of the Sports Athlete Categorisation
  • Where appropriate, undertake innovative and special projects to fill critical talent gaps that are identified within the performance pipelin
  • Provide strategic input, oversight and operational support of progressive training and competition experiences to Emerging, Developing, Podium Potential athletes and their training partners to maximise performance gains
  • Develop and maintain a valid and reliable profiling method, that is aligned to the WITTW model that can be used for selecting and progressing athletes through the Developing and Podium Potential stages of the Sports Athlete Categorisation Framework

Special Requirements

The nature of this position is such that the National Pathways Director will occasionally be required to be available outside the ‘normal’ work hours. The appointee will be notified in advance when this will be required. The successful applicant will be expected to travel at least once per month.

Selection Criteria


  • College or university degree
  • Artistic Swimming Coaching or Judging certifications, or willingness to undergo training
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Sport Management or Related Degree (desirable)

Knowledge and Experience

  • Advanced ability to use Google Docs and Microsoft 365
  • Prior experience in, or understanding of, a National Federated Sporting System
  • Prior experience in a Sport Management role
  • Prior experience with pathway development.
  • Prior experience maintaining operating budgets (desirable)
