In this role you will have the opportunity to lead and manage the Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement (AW&E) Team and Program at the QAS in alignment with the new Vision, Strategy and Values.  The AW&E Programs’ primary objective is to ensure QAS enables an enriching and holistic athlete high performance journey. In this significant leadership role, you will work with the Senior Leadership Team, CEO and other relevant partners to ensure QAS athletes are effectively inducted, equipped with the skills to thrive in HP environments, and are enabled to be inspiring role models for the State and the Nation. A special focus will be in supporting the Team to deliver for the emerging elite athletes who are 4-8 years away from reaching the Podium. The core responsibilities are as follows:

  • Lead the delivery and regular review of the new QAS AW&E Strategy, Tactics and KPI’s
  • Ensure all QAS Athletes have a “Off-field”, individuated plan (using My360 tool) that aligns to What It Takes To Win, and ensures they are supported as a person, and a performer
  • Create, manage and deliver AW&E key programs in alignment with AIS and NSO partners to address the contemporary issues faced by high performance athletes.
  • Drive formalised partnerships with key education, business and community stakeholders to enable mutually beneficial outcomes i.e., internships, apprenticeships
  • Work with QAS Communications personnel to proactively amplify the extraordinary journeys of Queensland athletes pursuing excellence through powerful storytelling.
  • Proactively link Queensland athletes to schools and targeted community programs to drive positive social change.
  • Establish and engage a QAS Athlete Insights group to advise, guide and support QAS practices and policies.
  • In partnerships with sports, collect independent and formal athlete feedback that provides actionable insights (sport specific and thematic) as to the ‘lived experiences’ of athletes in QAS supported programmes.
  • In partnership with sports, lead the development and delivery of effective inductions, transitions and exits for QAS athletes.
  • Effectively lead and manage the AW&E team to deliver the QAS AW&E Strategy and report against KPI delivery. Leadership and Management responsibilities include staff supervision and Team / Individual development, stakeholder management, financial management, reporting and providing strategic advice to QAS Senior Leadership Team and QAS Board.
