Job Description

At Netball Queensland we have an ambitious vision of becoming a world-class sports organisation, respected for transforming lives through netball.

To achieve this, Netball Queensland must push the limits.  We therefore need extraordinary people to take our sport into uncharted territory. Shaping a performance culture and delivering world class performance starts with assembling the right team and creating an environment where that team can thrive.

We are super proud of our history-making Queensland Firebirds team.  We are determined to continue to be the number 1 sport for women and girls in Queensland and we couldn’t be more excited about our amazing home – the $45million state-of-the-art Nissan Arena. The next few years are game changing for us, and we need the right team in place to make the most of these opportunities.

This incredible career opportunity - Performance Pathways Manager - will lead the Talent Identification and Development programs of Netball Queensland. This will include direct responsibility for the Elite Development Program (including Queensland Fusion), the Emerging Talent Program and the State Underage programs.  The role will also play a significant leadership role in athlete development and the overall coaching philosophies underpinning Netball Queensland programs.  One of these programs is the Pacific Islands Program, a DFAT funded opportunity for Pacific Island athletes to participate in Netball Queensland elite competition and development programs.

Whilst not an exhaustive list, the primary responsibilities of this critical role at Netball Queensland are:

  • Manage and supervise athletes, coaches and support staff within the Performance Pathways Programs, inculcating high performance behaviours and ensuring adherence to relevant policies, processes and protocols;
  • In collaboration with the Performance Pathways Head Coach and Athletic Performance Coach coordinate a holistic Elite Development Program which sees players graduate with the tools to manage the on and off court requirements of elite netball;
  • Deliver an industry leading talent identification system across Queensland, including the development of a highly effective scouting network;
  • Manage and provide strategic leadership to the NQ Underage State program and staff;
  • In collaboration with Netball Queensland Delivery Network team, manage and assist in the delivery the NQ Emerging Talent Program (player, coach and umpire development);
  • In consultation with the High Performance Director, actively assist in the appointment of relevant coaching, support staff and selector roles to the Performance Pathway programs;
  • As a member of the Talent Management Panel (TMP) actively contribute to the management of depth charts and succession planning to deliver sustainable competitiveness of Queensland netballers at the elite level.

The Pacific Island Program will require the Performance Pathways Manager to:

  • Develop, manage and supervise the opportunities for Pacific Island athletes within the Netball Queensland elite competition and development programs;
  • Develop and support education programs aimed at the formation of high performance behaviours across all identified athletes;
  • Deliver talent identification systems across Pacific Island programs in conjunction with existing Pacific Island procedures;
  • Maintain and communicate full and accurate reports in line with Netball Australia / Northern Rays Partnership Agreement.

The values of our organization are core to all recruitment. How we want to shape our organisation:

  • Trust - is the “spine” of how we operate. Trust means honest conversations and no “triangles”. It means trusting each other – not that we aren’t human and never make mistakes but trusting that we each do our very best. And trusting that our peers will also call us out if we need it.
  • Collaborative – we are not massive fans of traditional hierarchy. Clear roles yes, but a spirit of contribution, of “side over self” and two heads are better than one.
  • Brave – to transform lives and to lead our sport into the future we will need to make brave decisions, we will need courage to take risks and the resilience to convert failure into fuel.
  • Authentic – we each have so much to give, and to receive, if we show up. Be real, share our failures and successes, share our learnings. Show up. Find your voice. Own it.
  • Inclusive – diversity is a strength and we must get better at it. Whether it is our First Nations people or including men and boys, inclusion and diversity is our future.
  • Innovative – relentless pursuit of learning and continual improvement, creation of a safe space for ideas to be born and tested and learnings captured.

Essential Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years managing staff, stakeholders and complex programs
  • Demonstrated success coaching elite, emerging elite or semi professional teams and athletes
