Job Description

Description

Nakiska Winter Sports School Full Time Ski/Dual Instructor Winter 2022-23

Position Overview:

This role is suitable for someone looking to take on a full time, seasonal teaching role in a busy snow school. This position is great for increasing your number of teaching hours and gaining on-snow experience. Shifts generally start at 8/8:30am and end at 4pm. These hours fluctuate based on business levels and you can expect between 4-6 days of work per week, averaging at 5/week over the whole season. You need to be comfortable working in a workplace of heightened COVID safety measures. For example, you will be required to wear a mask on site for the duration of your shift, indoors and outdoors – even during lessons (subject to changes from AHS guidelines).

There may be opportunities to develop and grow your responsibilities to a Lead Instructor for our multi week programs based on performance as the season progresses.

**We deliberately operate without an instructor ranking system. Work is offered around evenly to ensure everyone has an opportunity to earn money and teach a variety of lessons. Expect to work lots with children and beginners of all ages. If you are hoping to spend all of your time teaching higher end, even adult lessons, or if you think your level of certification and experience means you shouldn’t be teaching beginners kids lessons then this isn’t the school for you.**

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be willing to accept all assignments that fit within your level of qualification and position in the Winter Sports School.
  • Consistently present and maintain a neat, clean and tidy appearance and a professional image as outlined in your department manual.
  • Delivery of excellent ski &/or snowboard instruction, in accordance with standards established by the Ski & Snowboard School. Guests will be of all ages and ability levels and lesson types will vary.
  • Abide by policy and procedures as outlined in the Nakiska Resort Staff Handbook and in the Winter Sports School Orientation Training.
  • Adhere to Nakiska Resort health and safety polices and incident /hazard reporting system.
  • A good knowledge of Canadian ski &/or snowboard instruction practices (CSIA, CASI) is preferred, or an equivalent internationally recognized certification.
  • Provide guidance and feedback in a manner that is supportive, encouraging and helps students/instructors move toward their goals.
  • Ensure all communication with guests and staff is professional, timely and supports the best interests of Nakiska Resort.
  • Assist with other duties and other mountain departments/management with operational or services tasks assigned by your Supervisor/Manager.

Key Skills:

  • Have a strong work ethic with active listening and effective communication skills.
  • Have a positive attitude, be punctual, reliable and responsible.
  • Willingness to take on feedback constructively in order to develop yourself.
  • Teaching experience preferred and minimum level 1 internationally recognized qualification(s) in ski instructing (snowboarding certification accepted if dual certified).

Opportunity for Growth into Team Lead Position:

  • Taking on the organization and helping with the facilitation of updates and changes to multi week program classes.
  • Ensure instructing staff are actively communicating with each other to problem solve issues in their classes.
  • Providing updates and notes of changes to supervising staff before end of shift.
  • Assist with identifying gaps in training needs for the instructing staff.

Application Requirements:

  • Own work VISA or legal status to work in Canada
  • Cover Letter and Resume/ CV
  • Proof of certification and active membership
  • Criminal Record Check with clearance to work with children, dated within the last 12 months
