Athletics SA is the peak State Sporting Organisation responsible for the administration, governance and development of athletics including recreational and elite pathways in track and field, cross country running, race walking and road running in South Australia.

Athletics SA and its sub-brand Running SA administers a large range of services for members and non-members, including development programs and the provision of upwards of 50 events annually ranging from local track and field competitions, to fun runs, to regular national and (in some cases) international events.

Athletics SA wish to appoint a Development Manager who will take the lead in administering its athlete development programs for track and field, road running, cross country, and race walking. This includes the coordination of the South Australian Target Talent Program (TTP), which is a junior performance and talent identification initiative, and the Emerging Athlete Program (EAP), designed to bridge the gap to SASI/NASS level involvement. An important part of the role includes working with Athletics SA clubs to ensure that they are sustainable. The Development Manager will also be responsible for the effective coordination of all Athletics SA squads and teams, whilst developing and implementing the organisation’s overall recruitment, retention and junior athlete development strategy.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with key stakeholders including athletes, coaches, officials, staff, Athletics Australia, Little Athletics SA, and any relevant advisory panels to effectively plan and execute all development programs
  • Attend National Championships as required and take overall responsibility for the team by performing the role of Tour Manager
  • Provide advice and assistance to clubs to facilitate increased membership numbers and increased participation
  • Work closely with the Athletics SA Events Manager to successfully deliver the SA All Schools Games and State Championships, and other events
  • Regularly communicate and work closely with key external organisations, including individual schools, school sport organisations, Athletics Australia, and other athletics bodies
  • Work closely with Little Athletics SA (including the Development and Pathways staff) to promote events, programs, and transition opportunities
  • Develop and effectively manage budgets for all development programs and events to ensure the ongoing financial viability of Athletics SA’s development programs

Special Conditions

  • Regular work outside of normal office hours, including weekends will be required. In particular, flexibility will be required regarding working hours in the lead up and during national and schools’ championships
  • Interstate travel is required
  • A current driver’s licence is essential
  • Athletics SA is a smoke free and drug free workplace
  • Current First Aid certificate
  • Working with Children clearance
