Reporting to the Director of Recreation and Social Programs, the Manager of Recreation and Sport Strategies is accountable for and oversees the strategic direction and operational management of the division in alignment with the Corporate Strategy and department goals. Recreation and Sport Strategies is responsible for long term service planning, business planning, reporting, issues management and business optimization for the business unit, including the Recreation Opportunities and Social Programs service lines.
As a member of the Recreation and Social Programs Management Team, you will be expected to foster an inclusive leadership approach that promotes equity, diversity and inclusion, as well as psychological and physical safety. Primary duties include:
Provide strategic leadership for the Recreation and Sport Strategies division on policy development, development of long-term strategies and service planning, and business optimization initiatives.
Lead the development and monitoring of business plans and budgets including business unit-wide performance metrics and benchmarking.
Provide strategic oversight and collaborate with service-delivery partners for recreational opportunities including equity of access to service, evaluation of delivery methodologies and facility utilization.
Collaborate with colleagues across the corporation on corporate initiatives and manage high priority initiatives on behalf of the business unit and management team.
A related Degree combined with 8 years of progressively more senior and diverse work experience, including at least 5 years experience leading and supervising a team.
A Masters degree in a related field would be considered an asset. Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
Aligning with City corporate values, you will have demonstrated success in building, developing and leading strong teams, leading and managing change and enabling innovation, developing and using metrics to improve organizational performance, and establishing and maintaining strong and positive working relationships with colleagues, clients, stakeholders, and/or elected officials.
Experience and success in creating and executing a strategic vision and direction for a complex organization or division, ideally in a service-based environment is a preferred asset.
Public sector experience, particularly municipal government experience in a large, multi-union environment, is a preferred asset.
