Hours of Work 22.5 Hours per week - Flexible – Days, Evenings and Weekends

Job Purpose

To assist in organising and implementing the treatment and rehabilitation, medical screening, and health/medical education programmes for all U9 – U18 players.

Main Tasks

To assist the Lead Youth Development Phase Physiotherapist in managing responsibility for all medical/health related matters appertaining to all age range Academy players under the guidance of the Head of Academy Medical, Lead YDP Physiotherapist and Head of Performance.
To help manage and direct all Therapist(s) to ensure all requirements of sports science and medicine are adhered to.
To work with the Head of Academy Medical, Lead YDP Physiotherapist, and Head of Performance in respect of development, organisation and implementation of the treatment and rehabilitation programmes for all Academy players.
To be responsible for accompanying the respective Academy squad(s) on match days as directed by the Senior Academy Physiotherapist. This would include the pre-match medical preparation, the provision of on-field first aid and treatment and treatment and the post -match medical recovery.
To maintain regular communication with the Head of Academy Medical, Head of Performance, Senior Academy Physiotherapist, Academy Doctor(s), Academy Medical Department, Sports Science Department, Coaches and Physiotherapists concerning all medical/health matters as and when necessary to ensure all issues are addressed.
Implement and manage individualised injury prevention programs within the Foundation Phase & Youth Development Phase 9-14s predominantly.
Monitor and Evaluate Peak Height Velocity feeding back to the wider coaching and support team via the Multidisciplinary approach along with the Lead YDP Physiotherapist
To organise and deliver medical/health education training programmes for all Academy players and staff as and when required.
To be involved in the organisation and conduction of in-service medical training for Academy coaching and/or medical staff as and when required.
To be involved in the counselling process of all Academy players concerning all medical/health matters as and when required.
To attend all briefings, courses, in-service training days and seminars as required by the Academy, the Club and the Football Association Medical Education Centre as designated in conjunction with EPPP legislation.
Support the provision of in-service training across departments in addition to parent workshops
To comply with terms of reference applicable to all staff as detailed in the Cardiff City FC Employee Handbook.
In addition to these duties, the job holder is required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

Essential Experience

Experience in an Academy Medical role within the Club or with a club of a similar size is desirable, as is a comprehensive understanding of the ‘Elite Player Performance Plan’. An ability to build networks and obtain and manage important information are of huge importance.

• Knowledge of football medical programme requirements is essential.
• Must be able to communicate and interact with a wide range of staff.
• Must have the ability to work on own initiative and under pressure.
• Must have the ability to develop within the role, learn new skills and deal with change.
• Must be highly organized and assertive with strong communication and time management skills.

Essential Qualifications

• BSc Sports Therapy or Equivalent Degree
• BSc Physiotherapy Degree
• Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP) or equivalent for Sports Therapy
• State Registered Physiotherapist (HCPC) or Registered Sports Therapist
• The FA Level 4 Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football or equivalent.
• Safeguarding and Protecting Children (acquired before starting role)
• Enhanced Level DBS clearance (acquired before starting role)
• A full UK Driving Licence is required

Desirable Qualifications

• The FA Level 5 Advanced Trauma Medical Management in Football
