Mega Event Team
The Mega Event Team is a new unit set up with the specific purpose of carrying out feasibility and bidding activity on a number of the UK’s high profile strategic mega event acquisition targets.
The mega event team will play a critical role in supporting the ambitions of the UK government, UK Sport and the Devolved Administrations by providing a range of supporting services to National Governing Bodies, DCMS, Host City Partners and International Federations.
EURO 2028 Team
Similarly, the EURO 2028 team is newly established within UK Sport. Its role is to support the UK and Ireland’s prospective bid for the 2028 UEFA EUROs. It does this by working alongside the Bid Team within the Football Association, UK Government, the Devolved Administrations and prospective host city partners, providing technical input, insight and expertise. It also provides an intra-governmental coordination role, specifically delivers on a number of direct bid deliverables and acts as the technical agency of UK government.
The Mega Event Team and EURO 2028 team are currently entering an exciting period of growth and are recruiting 3 x Technical Mega Event Specialists to support that growth and delivery of UK Sport’s mega event objectives.
The work undertaken will be wide-ranging, interesting, and fast-paced. The teams’ role will evolve throughout the mega event lifecycle/EUROs bid as befits requirements but will always maintain a focus on producing high quality outputs and being agile to the needs of the partners. Headline responsibilities will include (for both roles):
For Mega Events:
• overseeing all technical and financial feasibility requirements for events which have been identified as strategic hosting targets;
• supporting funding and business case application processes through DCMS/wider UK government;
• supporting (and in some cases leading on) feasibility and bidding activity, including the development of hosting budgets, impacts and benefits assessments; international relations campaigns, host city selection processes, and; if successfully secured for the UK;
• Overseeing the management, distribution and assurance of funding to support mega event delivery.
The teams’ works alongside UK Sports wider major events team, DCMS’s Major Sporting Events Department, the Devolved Administrations, National Governing Bodies and Host City Partners – and provides a critical role to UK Government by acting as the technical agency for mega events. This includes providing specific advice to government on mega event prioritisation, feasibility, and bidding.
The role & your skills / experience
As the Technical Mega Event Specialist, you will provide expert strategic, technical and financial support to projects through either feasibility, bidding or mega event hosting. This will include overseeing analyses of the financial requirements of the event and undertaking socio-economic impact assessments, in order to maximise economic and social benefits. You will also play a part in ensuring event hosting targets form part of a wider strategic narrative for the sport and deliver wider social benefits when hosted in the UK.
In the case of EURO 2028, you will work directly with football and government authority partners to deliver a first-class bid which delivers a compelling and comprehensive proposition to UEFA.
The successful candidate(s) will have extensive experience of working in major/mega event strategic planning and delivery and possess a high level of financial literacy. You will also have good report writing and project management skills. Technical expertise in mega event areas including venue/stadia operations, safety and security and/or governance, and a strong understanding of international sport would be beneficial.
A keen relationship builder and strong communicator, you will have demonstrable partnership experience with a multitude of stakeholders. You will also have a passion for sport & events and enjoy working as part of a team in a fast paced and quick changing environment.
