Job DescriptionPremiership Rugby is looking to recruit a Data Analyst with a proven analytics and statistics background to help support strategic work within the Premiership Rugby business.

Working within a close-knit team, Premiership Rugby is responsible for running Aviva Premiership Rugby, the Anglo-Welsh Cup and the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s. The role will report to Premiership Rugby’s Head of Governance & Regulation.

The candidate will need to have a background and keen interest in data analytics and/or mathematics.

This role is key to support strategic work within Premiership Rugby business with insightful data-driven information. The successful candidate will have a passion for working with numbers and will be comfortable researching into and dealing with large quantities of data to organise it, identify trends, find answers to business questions and at the same time proactively uncover new insight to progressively shape the business.

This will include but not be limited to;

• Data, analytics and database management;
o Working with the Head of Governance:
 To undertake an audit of current rugby related data landscape and other relevant business data to develop the data strategy for collating, storing, reviewing and reporting on key areas;
 To properly consolidate and develop existing data to build and maintain a comprehensive data management system;
 To manage data cleansing, ensuring data quality, integrity and protection;
 To deliver accurate data consolidation and validation work;
 To manage internal/external data feeds;
 In data modelling and mining;
 By supporting the ongoing management and development of the data governance program;
 Supporting the business in its adherence to Data Protection legislation;
 To ensure data management tools are up to date and suggest improvements and development of these;
 To develop and improve new data management systems;
 To ensure that data is effectively structured to support current and future business needs and feed current and future data manipulation/reporting tools.

• Reporting
o Support the Head of Governance in;
 the production of accurate reports that will stimulate and inform business debate through new insight and ideas resulting from data analytics;
 reporting of accurate and confidential information to key business stakeholders;
 ensuring that the business is supported with insightful information, reports and data to inform activities and decision making;
 developing and improving reporting systems;
 improving the production and quality of reports on playing data;
 ensuring the Data format is designed and maintained to properly support what is required;
 the effective management of recurring and ad-hoc reporting queries from the broader team.

• Business relationships
o Maintaining and developing relationships with key data providers.
o You are seen as a reliable, accurate go-to person for any data analysis within Premiership Rugby.


• Qualifications & experience:
o Degree in a mathematical, scientific or analytics discipline;
o Proven analytics and statistics background, and drive for data accuracy with structured and accurate working methods;
o Knowledge of relational database design concepts is desirable;
o Good understanding of data administration and management functions (collection, analysis, distribution etc.);
o Ability to demonstrate an advanced level of proficiency and experience in Excel, including complex pivot tables, formulae, functions and charts and other data analysis tools. Previous experience of Qliksense and SQL would be beneficial;
o Working knowledge of Data Protection Standards and appreciation of cyber-security.
